Charles Mackesy (2019)

Our bodies are pretty good at telling us when something might not be quite right. We may feel uncertain or uncomfortable and there might be a fluttery feeling in our tummy or chest. This can be for lots of different reasons such as something going on in friendship groups, with family or at school. I want to provide a safe and trusting space where you can begin to make sense of your world and experiences.
How we will work together
For children and some young people having counselling is often not their choice and this can make seeing a counsellor much harder.
Children and young people don’t always have the words to explain how they feel. I offer play based and creative therapy, alongside talking therapy, to help them which includes sand tray work, arts and crafts. Noticing patterns and themes, as they play, can tell a deeper story that might reflect feelings of fear, frustration, confusion or safety.
I work alongside parents to ensure your child is getting the right support. An initial assessment with parents and carers, by phone or online, is the first step for you to talk about the concerns you have about your child. Discussing, how we work together, duration, confidentiality and safeguarding.
The work is adapted to each child or young person and considers both chronological and developmental age as well as cultural beliefs and consideration of neurodivergence. I have experience of working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). I have worked with a range of mental health issues including anxiety, low self-esteem, self-harm, relationships, loss, low mood, loneliness and abuse.
